Hi all
Well, I lasted 5 days into the new year before my first purchase... I love my Tweedyluxe, but also love a proper Reverb (Strymon Flint in Classifieds)
I have been after a Romany Pro or Plus for a while, so when this one popped up locally I couldn’t resist. Sounds ace at home and the good news is my beloved Palmer Distortion sounds brilliant through it.
I have got a Tone Tubby Alnico to try in it later, so if anyone has experience of this, please give me your opinions

Looks great Tone, and I've never actually played one of these...

How is it at home volumes ?

Brilliant amps. I don't think I've ever played one and not loved it.

Timing and logistics have so far conspired to stop me buying one :(

I had one and sold it because it wasn't loud enough. Long story. Imho the tone tubby alnico red is a great improvement. However they have a long break in. I did a thread on tgp to document it.

I still have the tone tubby paired with another in a 2x12.

Thanks mate.. My Red Tone Tubby Alnico has had a few years of break in time. I did read your thread of a few years back with interest
Dennis Cornell assures me It’ll fit

I’ve not had chance to wind it up too much yet, but the cleans are lovely....  :)

  • I have had one for years. Excellent Amp. I have no problems using mine at home, but I do live in a house with two foot plus thick walls of stone.

Mine’s a strange one in that it has the older cab with only one input but Dennis fitted a new control panel with the 4 way attenuator when it was serviced... And it’s absolutely bloody Silent  :)

I love mine, had it about 7-8 years. Would like to try the Pro. I think a 20-40 watt version would be my ideal amp. I did own the Lazy J Cruiser Deuce pedal for a while, it works particularly well with this amp.

@slacker I’ve tried the Tone Tubby yesterday...and I put a Jenson 12pr Alnico in it last night. I wanted to love the Tone Tubby but I do like a bit more treble bite......(must be aging cloth ears) it did make it bloody heavy with the Tone Tubby. Some quiet playing last night with the Jenson did bring a grin to my face.... Maybe a Tone Tubby in Classifieds soon...I had been keeping it especially to fit in a Romany :)

Glad you found a suitable speaker. If you sell the tt mention that its broken in.

I tried 3 or 4 speakers in the one I had for a while.  I ended up putting the stock speaker back in.  It seemed to suit the amp.

For my ears the P12R is far better suited to the amp....but I thought the Blackstar HT1R was almost as good as the Carr Skylark  :)
