i currently have an Immerse MKi which I love on the whole but it’s a bit too quiet and the spring mode SUCKS. I’m looking for a change.

I still want something versatile but it’s gotta have a good spring verb on it.

Im looking at the Strymon Flint but I don’t really need the Tremolo as I have a Gravitas, unless I sell it to get the Flint?

Thoughts? Suggestions?

The Flint is great but the spring is not the best reverb model on it. I recently bought a Digitech Polara which has the Lexicon reverb algorithms and sounds decent enough. Very good for the price too. Probably not as good as the Flint though.

I think if I was buying again now I'd go for a Catalinbread Topanga.

  • Boss RV5 - A spectacular single stomp pedal that is easy to dial in. Typically has a nice bright tone that cuts through.
Boss RV6 - Another good option. Sounds very different to the RV5. Smoother and darker sounding.
Boss RV-500 - Very controllable. Tons of parameters there for you to craft your tone. Typically quite smooth sounding too.
Strymon Big Sky - Instant gratification and great for huge pad washes. The Hall isn't to my personally liking.
Source Audio Ventris - Every single engine sounds amazing, and it take zero effort to get a great tone.
MXR M300 Reverb - An excellent contender, and has a really lovely shimmer sound.
Digitech Hardwire RV-7 - Similar to the Boss RV5 in that it's a bread-and-butter reverb pedal. Sounds great.
Digitech Hardwire Supernatural - More specialized ambient reverbs.
TC Electronic Hall of Fame - Loads of variation in this pedal and with the toneprint editor you can really dig down into your tone.

    Bye!

I don't think the HOF spring models are very good at all. Only real weak point with them.

I'm also looking at different reverb pedals at the moment. Been using a Polara (not bad) and just got a Boss RV6 (good, but not quite doing it). The best spring setting I've heard in person on a pedal so far is on the MXR 300, not cheap though.

Anyone got a EHX Oceans 11? Looks like it has lots of extra features, inclduing the reverb kick effect. Sounds good on the demo, but I'm immediately suspicous a the demo reverb is in stereo and as far as i know the pedal isn't, so a bit of post-production there.

I have the Flint and as others have said the spring is the weaker of the 'verbs in it.  Still really nice.
I'm currently using a Boss FRV-1 which is really excellent... with a clean signal.  It doesn't like too much distortion going into it -- sort of makes ugly artefacts and it makes my JM prone to feedback on a small stage.
I think it will have to go.
    I'm looking at:
EHX Oceans 11 which seems to have a really good spring.
    MXR M300, or possibly the
Catalinbread Topanga... but... Andy's PGS demo of the Talisman plate is worth the price of admission!

I used to have a Digitech Digiverb and it may be rose tinted spectatcles, but I'm sure that the spring on that was very good. I got rid of it when I got a Polara, kind of wishing I hadn't now.

Hmmm, the MXR does look good. I’m after something with a small footprint preferably.

The spring mode on it is good then? Does it have shimmer (not a huge deal breaker)?

Spring sounds good and yes, has shimmer.

For spring reverb the closest thing you can get to the real thing is an frv1, everything else is a degree of compromise to a greater or lesser extent. In all honesty you may find what you want is closer to running two reverbs.

Just seen this Youtube comparison of the spring sounds of the Oceans 11, FRV1 and Ventris. The spring on the Oceans 11 sounds pretty good again and I love the reverb kick feature. Like the FRV1 it supposed to be modelled on a Fender spring unit. Need to try one...

The EXH Ocean 11 has kicked a HOF 2 (meh!) and Topanga (lovely) off my board.  The spring reverb is the best I've heard.
I loved the MXR M300, but the Ocean 11 has by far the better spring reverb.
I don't care for the other types of reverb so much, so it may not be the best for you, but it's rocking my world!!

Hmmm, im hearing a lot of good things about them Oceans 11. I’m just a little loathe to get a EHX pedal, last one I had wasn’t great and I keep reading mixed reports generally

I just play at home and am really a Novice, but I just bought an Oceans 11 as a Christmas present for myself, I'm still finding my way around what it can do, but it sounds amazing. The Spring sound really is good. It seems to be able to do loads of things, might take me a while to suss it out... but after a couple of weeks I love it. A lot nicer sounding to me than my HoF Mini.
