Tweed Colour....Pale and interesting

What's Hot
tone1tone1 Frets: 5112
Hi all
So I’ve got 2 Tweed amps which both vary in colour. My Tweedyluxe has been treated to give it a gorgeous honey tint. My Cornell is quite pale in comparison. Does anyone have advice or experienced the various coverings? :)

Tweed is always supplied 'raw' with little to no clear lacquer. It's up to the cabinet builder/amp mnfr/customer to further lacquer it to whatever shade they want.

I use a 1:1 mix of french polish and methylated spirits. Others use tinted gtr lacquer, some use wood stain, Jess Hoff uses Ronseal.

@RiftAmps Di you know what type of Ronseal Jesse Hoff uses please? Natural lacquer or a coloured variety? :)

@Gassage ; If my memory is correct I think you might have lacquered a cab to match your Lazyj....or did I dream it? :)

Jesse has the LJ cabs made externally and to my knowledge, no longer tints them himself.

I had a 2018 J20 in before Christmas that was Ronseal'd, although it was a much lighter shade than his trademark caramel

@tone1 yeah I did. You need to be sparing with the ronseal! I'll try and dig the colour out for you.

I used antique pine on my tweed, think it was ronseal:

Edit - that picture was in very bright daylight it is a little yellower than appears in the picture.

In fairness, Jesse told me himself they were all imported when I visited his home/workshop 18 months ago...

Might have changed since I guess ;)

I thought the Ronseal Diamond hard antique pine interior varnish rather than the floor variety just because it comes in a 750ml tin rather than the 2.5 litre Floor varnish at £44 :s

Does it matter if these finishes are  flammable when dry nowadays? Or are they all flammable anyway? Just a thought
