There is a disturbing lack of proper high gain amps in this thread.

Apart from 1 that used to be mine.
Ahem.. literally 2 of em in the second post.

    Also that Rocket Maynehead posted
So 4 out of what, 60? 2 of which are yours and 2 of which are mine, of which one used to be @fretmeister ‘s  ;)
I took lack to mean none

    Granted there's not many.

    Lack. Not enough.

basically under 95% high gain monsters is a lack.

Red-knob Super 60. Laugh all you like, it's my main gigging amp for very good reasons -
Because no-one else would possibly want to nick it or borrow it?

OK, nicking it would be hard anyway since they'd have to be an Olympic decathlete to both lift it and run away at the same time...
Well I used to use a Twin all the time but it was too big and got too heavy as I got older...this is almost as heavy but I can manage - plus I got a trolley.
Other reasons - the amp has a Celestion 12" 65 in it, it has great clean tone, excellent eq, takes pedals very well indeed and has been 100% reliable for as long as I've had it - 12 years? Doesn't matter if it gets a few knocks and if no-one wants to nick or borrow it that's another plus..

Damn... wrong button at first! That's the only one of that series I don't like. It has some odd glass things in it that seem to make it sound worse than the normal silicon ones :).

My favourite and most-used amp, one I should have bought decades earlier.

Do you use it as a preamp into a larger amp for gigs too? They sound amazing for that!

I haven't gigged it like that because it doesn't really work in my band, but as a preamp into a big amp it sounds fantastic, a really natural, old school craziness flat out, or good jangling cleans.

I was pleasantly surprised that it was pretty low noise too, I was expecting all kinds of hums and hisses and to have to carefully balance gain levels, but it's excellent.

I have the house to myself for the next three days, so thanks for reminding me to set it up again!

@John_P who did your head conversion? Looks tidy and more convenient than a combo! Wouldn't mind doing that with my Mini Jubilee.
