  • I had a mega karaoke session in private at home last night to run through the songs I'm supposed to be singing/howling/wailing on.  Notes:

@sticker - any chance you could do some harmonies on Day Tripper?  They're a big part of the song and we did well together on Take It Easy last year.

Need Your Love So Bad - a nice soulful one to sing, if a bit dirgey.  Maybe we could speed this up a bit @CustomPedalBoards?

Learn To Fly should be relatively straightforward apart from the weird bridge bit.  I might do a chord sheet so @mrkb and I are on the same page - unless you've already done one of your impressive multicoloured ones, Mark?

    Paradise City - should be ok, singing it an octave down.  Are you tuning in G standard @thomasross20? ;

I Think We're Alone Now - my Cover Challenge version is here - @sticker and @Bridgehouse - this is in C so I can sing it without castration.  Different to the record so might be worth a listen of the new arrangement.  @sticker I guess you're doing the rhythm and I'll just play the leads?

Remedy is a weird one to sing.  And it really does need two singers, one to do the male part and one to do the female call-and-response part in the chorus.  We're down to do two versions of this - either me and Mark can dep on each other's versions, or was there a rumour that there might be female company again?

    That's it!  Any thoughts, guys?
right then it seems ive put myself down for a load of songs that i might not have time to learn. would like to do them but times getting the better of me at the moment.
still up for remedy, live wire as have had a little go at them. live wire needs backing vox, as does remedy, so they need to be worked out between us who are doing it.
day tripper, my sharona, i used to play a long time ago so need brush up on them.
need your love so bad, need to find time to learn it, love the song, never played it. so @Modellista bare with! :)
take me off learning to fly, i thought it was the tom petty 1!
put me down for 2nd on brown sugar, im sure i've learnt that before so again i need to brush up on it, but similar to black crows aint it gettin the keef G thang on :) hehehe

Yes please.  It's in the right key and already arranged for guitars so makes sense.  If you can bear to listen to it...!

    Learn To Fly = Foos
    Learning To Fly = Petty

you're not the first person to get caught on that one!

only solution is to learn both.

Also often confused with "I wish I could fly" by Keith Harris and Orville

    Now THAT'S a banger!

The octave riff on Learn To Fly is a great example of something simple but instantly recognisable and iconic.

    You gotta love guitar.

(So is there a place on it now? I'm short of time but started learning it once, could probably pick it up quickish).

(Timing and tempo for Ace of Spades is my challenge this week).

I take it you want me to do the solo and fills??
    My trading feedback

is it crazy how saying sentences backwards creates backwards sentences saying how crazy it is?

ok.. during the verse.. one guitar can shadow the bass with the chords and riff... whereas the other can do the double stop bends..

I've pretty much got the bends lick (love that). Not quite got the riff with chromatic walk down at tempo yet but getting there. We can work it out/take turns/do multiple runs, whatever works.

I can get through the whole thing (sauf solo) at 85% tempo, so only got to add 2% a day. How hard can it be? ;-)

Just looking at the "Gig List" it seems a bit... sparse . I take it we are doing open mic before the gig but is the intention to gig some of the jammed tunes ?
0reaction image LOL 0reaction image Wow! 0reaction image Wisdom
  • SnagsSnags Frets: 5326
Yeah, think so. Acoustic sets, then jam.songs + extras was my understanding

0reaction image LOL 0reaction image Wow! 0reaction image Wisdom
  • Yep, the gig list is just for extra songs that we collectively know but aren’t playing in the studio. For potential inclusion in the gig.

Get carried away, it'll be fun! The main part on Learn to.Fly is pretty simple, you could learn it up there, I reckon.
