Downloadable Courses

I'm in a bit of a rut and would like to buy some sort of course that would help my playing. I'm thinking of licks, improvisation and melodic soloing like Santana and Slash etc. I'm not looking for Skype lessons or anything like that as I live in the Falklands and the internet is awful. I want a course I can buy, download and work through at my own pace. Does anybody have any suggestions of where I can go to get such things that are excellent quality?

Thanks

truefire.com is pretty good and has loads to choose from e.g. rock, jazz, blues etc.  They're having a 4th July sale on at the moment https://truefire.com/4th

Might be worth a look, there is a 30 day free trial to test it out, which seems pretty generous.

  • Thanks for he suggestions guys, they're really helpful. I've already downloaded a few courses from Trufire as their sale meant they looked good value. I've only looked through one so far, which had some good bits in it and a fair bit of dross but I can't judge them on just one course so I'll see how the others look over the next week or so.

Have a look at JustinGuitar. I think you can get DVDs of his courses. He may have the option to download as well now.

  • If your Internet connection is not good you could try the DVD of Learnandmaster, or download the lessons of Truefire. I've bought a bunch of lessons on TrueFire and I really like them, especially the Steve Vai course Alien Guitar Secrets. At the following link you find more information about the best online guitar lessons
"I created this picture of this character who would play the guitar effortlessly, who had no limitations, performing beautiful music, and he moved around with great acrobatic skills, just capturing the audience and being a great entertainer." Steve Vai

  • I've tried a few of these things now and I've come across two that really stand out from the rest.

James Shipway Guitar has provided courses that are detailed and clear with excellent support from James himself, who is a really nice guy and has always been incredibly helpful. I can recommend his stuff very highly.

The other one is yourguitaracademy.com which has some really superb resources. Again, it's high quality tuition and Dan, who runs the company, is very helpful and supportive. The lessons here are very structured so cover everything from beginner material to studies of some of the world's top players. So far I've looked at player studies for Carlos Santana, Dave Gilmour and Slash. Each one has been very helpful and I've learned a great deal.
