Is Dave Edmunds a better guitarist than I give him credit for?

What's Hot
He's good.....no doubt about it.....probably the best in British old school rock and roll and King of the sixth shuffle. Sabre Dance does show some serious chops.....but are all the other (mainly album) solos courtesy of Messrs King and Bremner?

I suspect that, like the Status Quo guys, he's actually a far better guitarist than first impressions would suggest.
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

If you've ever had to play the parts from some of his songs, you won't doubt how good he is.  Just listening, they may not sound like anything special.  Just my opinion and experience...

If he is good enough to play the parts the songs require, he is a good guitarist.

There is a lot of "snobery" about who is a good guitarist and who isn't, and most of that has nothing  to do with their actual ability. IMHO Dave Edmunds is a very good guitarist!

Going by the only yardstick that matters, which is the 1992 Guitar expo in Seville video, he was not my cup of tea. Bloke clearly is an excellent guitarist though.

On the rock night Steve Vai had the most incredible jacket with a hole cut out for his tattoo iirc

He is a bloody good guitarist, but not a very nice guy to work with so I hear. Check out Micky Gee who used to work with him, he was ace as well. The Welsh Albert Lee

  • He has a very low opinion of Keith Richard's playing.

  • He and Buddy Holly were my first guitar heroes.... Check out some of his playing on some of his Cajun like tunes. Tricky enough! Plays a mean banjo too as well.
Didnt he produce the first Stray cats records too??
Anyway, he'd deadly and I got to meet him and Albert Lee on a Buddy Holly tour they did (Win Win for me lol) where the tour manager fucked off with all the money. They were understandably pissed off but they did the gig and were gracious enough to talk to the fans after so.....
Give a man a fire and he's warm for the day. But set fire to him and he's warm for the rest of his life

His playing is all over McCartney's Give My Regards To Broad Street album (along with Lukather and Chris Spedding), and there's not a bad note on that album.
