Any recommendations for York/North Yorkshire? My JCM800 reissue has developed a hum and general noise issue that to me suggests it's time for the caps looked at, don't actually know how old it is as I got it 2nd hand.

Mac amps in Leeds a possibility but if I can travel a bit less far that would be grand.

I can wholeheartedly add the Guitar Centre in Langley, near Slough/Heathrow. Family run friendly business of many years, have a great amp technician. Recently refurbished my old Fender Twin valve after it hadn't been used for 25 years !

Can anyone recommend an active and competent amp tech in London? I have tried contacting the ones already mentioned in this thread to no avail.

Jerry Deane 07770 687707 is an experienced freelance electronics tech with badges from Fender, Marshall and Roland. Not just for amps, but he fixed my Carr in a professional way and at a reasonable price. He subcontracts a couple of days a week to the local music superstore and has private clients the rest of the time. He's based just outside Christchurch, Dorset.

  • For Swindon and surrounding areas (I drive to him from Reading), Chris Thomas of Vintage Amp Services is based in Royal Wootton Bassett, just a few miles south west of Swindon and a short distance from J16 on the M4.   http://www.vintageampservices.co.uk/

He's rebuilt a Sound City 50+ for me (new input transformer and passive tone controls), serviced my Two Rock (got it a lot quieter), checked over a handwired 5E5A amp and fixed a couple of issues on that and checked out my Fender Vibro Champ.

Really friendly chap and interested in getting things right, even if it means him putting more hours than he estimated at no extra charge.

Another +1 for Rob, certainly knows his stuff, reasonably priced and turn-around time nothing short of astounding!

Agreed. Nice guy, fixed my amp quickly for a reasonable fee and didn't even complain when he had to keep it for an extra month when the Leicester lockdown was imposed!

Definitely recommended, would happily go back.

Well, not happily, because it'll mean something's broken, but you know...

  • Sick Amps in Harlow. Just had my Mark IV repaired and serviced. Had a difficult to fix issue that Chris managed to figure out, replaced certain incorrect components that a previous repair guy fitted and a new set of power section valves.

Very professional and easy to use service.

This bloke has done some good work on my stuff in Sheffield.

Since we lost the inestimable Pete Hartley, I have struggled to find someone that I trust to dig around in my amps, and Andy as now made it to that status!

Not an Amp repair, but a pedal repair (there isn't such thing in the FX area)

    Just had my original 70's Small Stone phaser repaired by @ICBM ;

He was nothing but informative, helpful, speedy, and great value. And gently reminded me at how bad i was at using a soldering iron 10years ago!

    Thank you again!

Lots of Nice Guitars, and not enough pedals!

I might as well throw my hat in the ring.
