  • I'll maybe try that - just been overloaded with work and band practice to get around to it.

Allianz pissed me off because I had to type in the descriptions and serial numbers all over again at renewal time, they already had all that info !  :|
Imagine something sharp and witty here ......

  • Who will you be considering?
Allianz were something like £250 for me and New Moon were £50.

  • I've heard that they do pay right enough..
I must check terms and conditions. £250 a year is a lot!

I use the Alliance of Musicians & Performers  - 70 quid for whole band PLI (up to 5 members I think) £10,000,000 cover

Sounds good. It does make you think why others are sooooo much more expensive though as this thread has pointed out :(

Not certain mate - the insurance market for anything has some of the biggest price variations out there.

Thankfully I've never had to claim on PLI so can't comment on the process

I just rang DirectLine to renew my home insurance. They say my guitars are covered under a £50k contents clause (only whilst at home) so I don't know if I (or any of you) really need to get dedicated instrument insurance?

Honestly, it's been a while since I looked into all of that and I've just been paying it for years now. So maybe I'm talking rubbish.

You won't be covered if you're getting paid for playing gigs. And even if you're not, the insurance company will try to wiggle out by saying you must have been getting paid...

But if it's stolen from home they should cover you, right? Good point, though..! Always better with the specialised insurance, I guess!

It’s worth remembering that insurance is for costs which you couldn’t cover out of savings. PLI is obvious because few of us have £1m lying around spare. However, if you could afford to replace a stolen guitar, or wouldn’t bother, then insuring it isn’t necessary. Large companies often don’t insure their vehicles, other than statutory 3rd party cover, because it’s cheaper to repair/replace they few that do get broken than insure them all.

Having insurance against some pisshead pulling a PA cab over onto someone's head is far more important to me than insuring my crappy guitars.

I have guitars I would be sad to lose, but I'd be much sadder if I lost my house to pay compensation.

I've used New Moon for several years; just got my renewal through. For 2 x Les Pauls (around 4.5k together), a Kemper, Kemper footswitch, 2 x RedSound LG12 cabs (£700 each), wireless Shure GLXD unit, MXR Talkbox, mics etc. - and PLI - it's £120 for the year.

That includes unattended vehicle cover as well.

Thanks for that - I've followed the instructions to register for MU insurance several times in the past - filling in and mailing off a form - but never received anything back (and forgot all about it). Now it's done via a web site, so at least there's an email. I must admit I did wonder whether there actually was any insurance at all.
