Wearing them?  or selling them?   When you go to gigs or on stage?   Your band or other bands?

I'd say yes to all :)

Do you mean your own band or other bands?
At your gigs or when you are watching bands?

I'm guessing you mean wearing other band shirts when you go to watch gigs - if so then I don't see a problem but it could depend on the type of gig I suppose.  Is she that fussy about what you wear?   Do you dare tell her what to wear? ;-)

  • No, creating our own shirts to wear at our own gigs lol

  • Depends on what sort of band you are. If you're just doing pub covers for pocket money and a bit of a laugh then wear what you want. If you're more of a function band and need to look respectable then go for the matching look.

You don't wear your own band t-shirt at your own gig. It's just not respectable.

  • I wouldn't, but then we're a rough and ready covers band playing in pubs. If I were in a function band playing for decent money then I'd neaten up a bit.

But then I might be playing covers I consider naff and that's not going to happen.

"Dress for the job you want, not the job you have". We mainly play pubs, but aspire to get back into the wedding circuit, so we dress appropriately. If you aspire to make money from selling band T shirts then wear them yourself. If you want to look (and feel) like a team then coordinate what you wear, such as all wearing the same colour shirt.

There is nothing wrong with having a bit of fun with stage clothes and yes it may be self promotional , but give it some thought and make it classy (or failing that funny)

No matter what people say they like to be entertained

I'm with Drew on this. Wearing your own bands t shirt on stage* is about as far away from "cool" as you can get. Hell, i've worn one of my own band's shirts precisely once. Morning after the last show of a tour, ran out of clean clothes, no option but to raid the merch box.

*unless you're in Iron Maiden. Somehow they carry it off.

Andy Latimer does, and IMO it's quite respectable.
