Put me as a definite mate. I can spare 50 quid and get a rattle can of paint at the very least.
I'm using emulsion paint and a roller !
    Ooo good effort!

I'll need to dig out a big bin for mine. I spent ages finding a suitable one, and vowed I'd keep it because it was such a bugger to get.

  • Two questions: 1. Anyone got any thoughts on how hard it would be to strip the paint off one of these things? 2. Would it be cheating to get someone else to finish it? :)

@ThePrettyDamned Clearly you intend to dazzle the competition with a cover version of Oscar the Grouch's "I Love Trash" when you unveil your guitar to forum.  I have to admit, that's got win written all over it.

1 - It's poly so it will need either a heat gun or a sandblaster..........I'm still considering a sandblaster for a unique surface to refinish.

2 - I don't think anything is cheating if you don't have the tools or resources to do a job yourself !

It will be the black or White explorer for me. I'll fit a floyd/bigsby hybrid trem and 3 single coils

I'll also be going for an acoustic as an aside

I'm going to start with a knife and a hair dryer, and if that doesn't work I'll move up to a proper heat gun. Hopefully, it'll peel right off.

I could probably get by with just sanding back the current finish and using that as a primer of sorts, but I'd rather it have a thinner finish than it probably has.

I like the Harley Benton idea. Put me in please @TTony.

Edit: I'm just going to get this and reshape the headstock, strip, nitro and heavy relic it.

I might be in. I really want this but not sure I'd be modding it in any way...

I'll give something a shot - provided the euro doesn't suddenly skyrocket against the pound. Haven't decided what yet though...

edit: I think I'll probably do the 22 inch scale strat, rather than the extra short scale strat. Already got an elaborate plan in mind!

That's all part of the fun I guess, finding out how good (or not) it is for the money in its standard state, and then working out what's worth spending on it to improve it ...

A tentative "I'm in" from me too. I'd love to get involved, but theres no promise of having the cash to do it... I'll see if I have the cash come entry time. If I do, i'll be taking part though :)
I'm actually hankering for the 7 string Bass, but it comes in at £220ish. I'd be happy to take part in a non-competetive manner if that would be the case? It's neck through, so plenty room to irreversibly fuck it up on their part. We shall see how it goes.
