  • Yeah, after my recent build experience, I'm rather itching to get my teeth into something else. Modification would be a lot of fun. A tentative yes from me, as I will be finishing my degree this summer, so can go right ahead with it after that! :D I reckon, maybe the active '84' style explorer in white or black, depending if I want to 'Eet Fuk' it up or maybe Wolf to Man inlays... or perhaps one of the L450- Pluses and my imagination! :D

What are we doing about payment and ordering?

Do we just agree a reference that we all quote to Thomann and order our own?

  • I'm quite excited about this - I think I have enough bits (assuming compatibility) that the only thing I'll need is a blank square of pickguard plastic.

Do things like lap steels and bass ukuleles count?

  • I can't decide on any guitars that I want at the moment, but I'm quite tempted by an electric violin from them!

  • Good point, I could use the Bigsby as a chin rest and control it that way! :D The lack of frets won't matter, it'll still alter the pitch; and besides, I don't even know how to play one yet!

I might be in. I really want this but not sure I'd be modding it in any way...

That's all part of the fun I guess, finding out how good (or not) it is for the money in its standard state, and then working out what's worth spending on it to improve it ...
Go on then - I'm in; if need be I can just get one of the thirty quid ones as a starting point.

As well as the silly cheap normal prices and B stock HB guitars, they also sell some super cheap as "decorative" so the warranty does cover any playability issues (DSR still apply of course so a quick return is fine).

    Decorative guitars and basses

I read about them on a couple of forums with people reporting the faults as tiny e.g. a dent or a set up needed - if we're modding them anyway there could be an even better bargain to be had.

I've never built a guitar so this would be interesting, I'll throw a provisional hat in the ring.

I see no reason why not.

So we're up to 17 definites and a few more maybes.

I'll contact Thomann tomorrow and see if they're interested in supporting this in any way.

I'll update the thread here with any details, and whether you need to quote anything (our secret code!) when ordering ...

if we can get discount of 10% or more I may go for 2.   quite fancy the 22" RG as well as the 19" strat.   the strat would get stripped, carved and decorated and a single toaster pickup.   the RG would get aluminium plate, possibly engraved, and a single humbucker.

but asking for 10% off those prices is a bit cheeky  :)

I also need to order a explorer gigbag from them anyway - so will be putting an order in this week

I may have to do this. Goal for me would be to do everything as cheaply as possible... On the scrounge stylie ;)
