Its always very convenient that the answer to "Whats the best pop song ever?", "whats the best guitar sound ever?" and "whats your favourite guitar solo?" is the same song...

    Beat me to it!

    It's the perfect pop song.

  • I love the solo in "Larger Than Life" by the Backstreet Boys (I don't think it was included in the video).

"Man I Feel Like A Woman" by Shania Twain is great too. Well constructed, but played with real energy.

I'm sure we had a thread like this some time ago, and I suggested "Running With The Night" by Lionel Ritchie. It's almost as if the producer said to Luke "Yeah, do what you like!"

I would post Youtube links, but my Sky internet is so shit it'd be quicker for me to re-record the songs myself.

    Ha!
When you said "Best pop song", "Best guitar sound" and "Best guitar solo", the track just popped into my head before I even clicked on the video! Very well played, sir.

...though of course the best pop song is Common People.

    How about.... @ 3:18...

Honourable mention for The Beatles' Hard Day's Night, which apparently was tracked at half-speed and then sped up on the record.

I think Dann Huff played this one.....

Crikey! It's hard to tell Huff and Lukather apart at times (similar style and sound) but another Chicago song that could appear here is "Hard to say I'm sorry" and that one is Steve Lukather.

No Nik Kershaw? "Wouldn't it be good"?

"Boys of Summer" - more the riff and fills.

"Stay with me tonight" by Jeffrey Osborne - Solo at 2:16 at it was strongly rumoured that Brian May played this, but no proof

"Maniac" by Michael Sembello - Solo at 2:52

Solo at 2:46 in "Electric Dreams

Cor..these cheesy 80s videos are killing me! :)

Pretty much all the solos on Weezer's green album are the vocal line played on the guitar. Sounds naff, but is in fact poppy and brilliant.

    Noise, randomness, ballistic uncertainty.

  • My trading feedback

is it crazy how saying sentences backwards creates backwards sentences saying how crazy it is?

  • Stranglers - Golden Brown.
    Solo is at approx 1:58
(It sounds really faint on my PC, hopefully you can hear the solo on whatever you're listening on!)

One of my favourite short solos that fits the song - be bop deluxe, bring back the spark (EP made the UK top 40). Solo kicks in at around 2.40

Anything Tony Peluso did with the Carpenters is cool with me. I can't get on youtube for an example, but the fuzzy one on Goodbye to Love is the most cited, but his clean ones are always simple and tasteful until you try to play them.
