I've just measured my resting heart rate...

55bpm average over 3 readings (using a Samsung Galaxy S5).

I'm pretty happy with that - surely that means I'm quite healthy? Or dying? Not sure which yet.

On the contrary, my old man has heart issues and was unfortunately his reason for departure from the Fire Service (he still did 30 years though!). His resting heart rate when hospitilised was a touch under 200bpm.

If you have access to something that can measure your heartrate, what's yours right now?

Yeah. It's a slow day at work before you ask.

Normally high 50s, but today our van is having MOT, service, timing belt, suspension, discs and pads so it's about 280bpm. :|

    (OK it's 67)

I think I'm right in saying Bjorn Borg had one of the lowest RHR of all time.

I'm not sure why, but I also vaguely remember being told that Miguel Indurin (sp?) the cyclist had a RHR of something silly like 27. Might well be bollocks though

*edit* a Google search tells me it was 28bpm. So I was talking shite. Sorry guys

If I ever have to have my blood pressure taken I have this thing I like to do where I make my heart race a bit by shallow breathing, then start breathing deeply to drop my heart rate as quickly as I can, which causes the machine to error.

I find it hugely amusing when the nurse or doctor apologises, resets the machine and we try again.
My record is getting it to error 3 times in a row.

  • According to NHS website, 60-100 is normal. The lower the figure, the healthier your cardiovascular system is supposed to be.

Mine's typically 58ish - I check my blood pressure daily and it measures my heart rate as well.

Amazed it's that good if I'm honest....

    Yes.

Had a health check last year - my BP was 157/114 (the ideal level is 120/80).

I was convinced I would die imminently. I've cut out sugar, salt, limited calories to circa 2000 a day and walk whenever I can instead of driving.

I've lost 35lbs and BP is usually better than 130/85 - achieved without any medication.

Feel massively younger, livelier and happier.

Supposed to be ;) An oversized heart is not a good thing but can cause a lower rate.

Mine is 40 bpm and I'm athletic, but it runs in the family, great when you are young,  Bastard when you get older and your legs and feet start turning green.

35bpm is worrying, ideally you want 50 something.

I do look a lot like Bjorn Borg so people say, so perhaps we are related.
