The friendly UPS fella gave me this today...

Nope, not an empty box, this was in it...

And in that was this.

Yep, MiJ Charvel So Cal, brand spanker, Candy Blue. The blue is much nicer IRL than it looked in the stock photos (as usual). I've been lusting after one of these since they came out, so when Richtone announced they had the last ever MiJ stock in, I had to.

And yes, it plays as well as everyone says. The neck is Ibanez Wizard size, but more of a C than a D. Fuck it's comfy. It needs a bit of tweaking to get it how I like it, but largely it plays very well out of the box, no rattling or crazy-high action. Band practice can't come soon enough!

It's a bit creaky at the moment, it's still a bit new and needs playing in... My pleasure :D

Proper jealous.Missed these the first time and was well gutted.Saw Richtonemusic where getting them in but it was just after I got my Les Paul so can't justify pulling the plug on one.Even more gutted now.Thought about selling a couple of guitars to raise the money but they'll probably be sold out too soon.Quite sad.

Oh yes, they're definitely a pleasure to play.

You might need to adjust the pup height as they are powerful and can get a little muddy (esp the neck). Sweet guitar though fella.

Yeah, the pups were almost maximum height! I've adjusted them and they sound a lot crisper. I'd forgotten how much I like Dimarzios. Just need to whack a set of 10s on it, set it up for Eb and I'm golden.

    Awesome :D

What's not helping my usual indecisiveness if I can't decide on a model or colour, either. I prefer the non-scratchplate ones (both the looks and the pickups, not to mention the chrome hardware)... but of the colours that are available (i.e. i'd prefer the older ferrari red or white, neither available) that blue one with the black scratchplate is maybe the nicest. Dang it looks nice. :))

EDIT: How light is the blue? If it's even possible to answer that :))

Yeah the blue one with the scratchplate is out of stock :)) Didn't see that coming. :| Still, it's the same blue as on the one without the scratchplate, right? If so, it'd still be helpful... is it super light and pastelly?

I think the San Dimas is the same colour, they're both 'Candy Blue', I have to say I've not seen it in the flesh though.

The one I have here isn't what I'd call super-light, but it is lighter than it looks in the stock images and it is quite pastelly, reminds me of Pelham Blue. The picture I posted (blurry though it is) is quite a good representation, if you take into account the shine.

The San Dimas might look a bit lighter without the black hardware, scratchplate and top-mounted jack.

Thanks :) Yeah that's kind of what I was thinking- I think the blue is fine (actually really nice) with the scratchplate, but it might be a little light without one.

I suppose the red one might be the safer choice- my original first choice (without the scratchplate) would've been the old ferrari red, and I suppose the candy red isn't a million miles away from that. Second choice would've been white.

Only thing is I already have a bunch of red guitars (including my star) and I only have one blue guitar (which is nothing like the charvel). :))

    They're the same blue........

When I looked at them, a couple of years ago, the San Dimas looked a little untidy around the pup's, hence I got a So-Cal (difference - So Cal has a scratch plate and Di Marzio's....)

  • Loverly. I've never been much of a floyd rose fancier, but I've always made an exception for Charvel superstrats. The fender body and headstock just looks so good with a FR and twin buckers in a very different way to regular strat.

Don't want to hijack your thread (but I didn't want to not let you know either since you'd helped me a lot with the colour and since I rarely make NGD threads) but I got the red san dimas. :D Seems really nice. I had all but talked myself into the blue one but then had an epiphany when I found a bunch of close up photos on a guitar shop's website (which was out of stock but still had the photos, which was handy) and it dawned on me that candy red was actually a pretty nice bright red. And that the candy blue without the scratchplate might be very pastelly (with the scratchplate like yours looks awesome).

So yeah, I'm pleased I went for the red, it looks great. Good job I realised this when they still had one left :)) Thanks for all your help about the colours :)
