Liquidsonics have a new 7.1.6 Atmos multichannel surround reverb called Cinematic Rooms with additional discounts on the intro price for owners of their other plugins. I had some questions earlier today and Matt was really helpful and quick to respond. Haven't had much of a play yet but I like what I've heard (bought it today and have just had a play in 5.1 mode). It looks like it'll be quite handy in stereo too.

$249 for the pro version and $129 for normal. Will be $399 and $199 once the introductory period is over. Although it's priced in dollars he's a UK developer.

Yep @octatonic I agree. Rooms appears to do both big and small reverbs very well and the "flow" from speaker to speaker feels very smooth and immersive (especially front to back). I'm quite impressed with it.

Has anybody mentioned the Spitfire Audio free instruments? In particular the Discover package of BBC Symphonic Orchestra ( https://www.spitfireaudio.com/shop/a-z/bbc-symphony-orchestra-discover/ )?

The Discover package is a reduced package (the bigger ones cost £££) at £49, but there is a link next to it where you can get it for free (requires answering a survey and waiting a fortnight). I haven't done an in-depth on the thing, but it has been used to add a bit of strings to a few things ( https://soundcloud.com/pintspiller/kiss-me-violet-with-strings ) and is good enough for songwriter demos.

They do other free instruments they refer to as LABS ( https://www.spitfireaudio.com/labs/ ). I've started using their electric piano where I would normally have used other free Vox and Farfisa type VSTi (possibly on my entry in the Christina Aquilera cover competition of this parish).

I've tested it out and you make good use of it. Really shows off the potential and limitations. The lack of dynamic layers and round robins means that there are no variations within a single note and the piece overall will sound quite flat and artificial, especially if you've composed for the same note to be played many times. The LABS range is alot better.

Though I say that, I think Spitfire have done really well to make such an accessible, albeit limited, full orchestral sample library plugin.

That is it’s aim; but at the end of the day is just a small suite of EQ and dynamics processing that can be used on anything. Try it on drum busses as well as master busses
