Well it's been a busy weekend....
Just a couple of weeks ago, I made a promise that I wasn't going to buy any gear in 2018 (HA!)
Then I had a bit of a 'seen the light' moment and I realised that I had about 2/3rds of my guitar gear 'money' in my acoustic, which didn't make a lot of sense to me as I play electric about 90% of the time. And now that I'm having lessons again and focussing on the electric, it'll probably now be more like 99% of the time. Given that I've never been
truly happy with the American Special I had, the idea was that I'd sell off everything, start from a blank canvas, and make more 'economical' - but smarter - choices to also free up cash for a potential house move on the horizon this year.
Yeah, that didn't go to plan......
New Guitar Day x 2
For those that had seen my Strat thread, it was clear that I was in the market for a new guitar, but with no clear idea of exactly what it is I wanted. So I spend a couple of hours down at PMT on Friday morning playing pretty much everything I could try. I played many Strats. I played a Tele and confirmed what I already thought - I don't like Teles....I even played a PRS that was so heavy I thought I'd have to start a new gym regimen if I wanted to be able to regularly play the thing.
After much agonising, I decided on something of an extravagance....whilst confirming that I do indeed like the Stratocaster!
It's a new American Professional in Sonic Grey. It's funny, when I first played it, I said 'lovely guitar but not in that colour', but it soon became clear that I'd been bewitched by some force far greater than me. I fell in love with it!
An honourable mention to the 60's Classics I played - I liked them a lot. If it weren't for the fact that the two they had in clearly been in the shop for a long time, and so felt a bit grubby, there's every chance I might have walked out with one. I can see why people rave about the classic series.
Back to the American Professional, I'm very smitten.
Whilst not
quite as exciting, I've also ordered a Sigma OMM4 from Coda to replace my Taylor.
New Helix Day
I also bought a Helix LT, just to keep the Strat company, but sadly it wasn't in stock so I don't yet have it in my grubby little mitts!
New Speaker Day
I decided to go down the monitor speaker route with the Helix, as I also needed a good pair of speakers for listening to music. The Yamaha HS5 ticked the boxes in terms of size versus performance so I grabbed a pair of those.
New Desk Day
Well, you can't buy all this new gear and not have somewhere to put it, can you? I've been meaning to sort out my guitar playing space for a while, and getting the Helix and speakers gave me a kick up the arse as my old desk was on the small side!
Gumtree. £10 including a set of drawers. Bargain of the weekend for sure!
New Coaster Day
Best £2.99 I ever spent!
Was hoping to spend my day off tomorrow getting to grips with the Helix, but sadly it's going to be Tuesday before it's with me. Ah well, can't win 'em all, and luckily I still have the Blues Cube so I can at least play the new guitar!
Update 5/2/18 - happy ending - guitar exchanged for the same in Olympic White!
Comments
I bought a 000MR4 from Coda recently and I’m very happy with it, especially for just £250
Good choice.
You are going to need to do a new-four-way-extension-lead-day too soon
Haha one step ahead of you!
Alas, it would be, but 'tis coffee!
I'm a bit of a neat freak!
New Skint Day?
Really pleased to have made a firm commitment to lessons all year.
