I just clicked on the Activity button - seems many people, like me, thought they were PM'ing when they were wall-posting. I can see paypal addresses and all sorts. Not that it's a problem with we kind souls, but it seems a bit weird to me.

  • Why do email notifications not contain posting content? That is one of the things I enjoy about the FAS and MR Forums.

I might be being dense but can't see any way to Search when using the mobile version. Is it possible? If it isn't could it be made to be?

Is there a way we can export all pm's? I used to do it on MR and it was useful especially in light of their demise.

  • Hey guys, can you help please.  A good friend of mine is having trouble with his PC freezing when he tries to access theFB site.  It is causing more than a little frustration for him, and may be a problem others have too.  As he is having trouble with access, I have offered to act as intermediary for him.

"I'm using Firefox with Windows 7 and virtually every time I hit the 'home' page my laptop freezes.  No idea why this happens.  Cursor freezes too so I'm stuffed." to quote him on the problem.

What do you need to know to help narrow the problem?

I assume, in my luddite way, that it is a software conflict with whatever the site runs on his PC.

He was advised to install Firebug, but having done that he has no idea what to do with it.

Thanks in advance for your help, it is much appreciated,   cheers,   Chris

  • @ChrisMusic - the best plan would probably be to restart Firefox in Safe Mode and then try it. Here's how you do it:

If that works, then he's got a dodgy plugin somewhere in Firefox which is causing the problem.

  • Thanks for the advice @DigitalScream,  -   I'll eMail that across to him right now.

BTW is there any way to "bookmark" a particular comment in a discussion?
ie, in this instance to send him a link straight to these comments relevant to his current issue?  (as they wont be /feedback#latest for very long)

I'll get back to you with the results asap,  cheers,  Chris

  • I honestly don't think there is. Perhaps there should be? Not sure...

There sort-of is, actually - if you hit the "Flag" button it'll say "Link to content: Comment #blah" - the "comment: #blah" bit is a direct link to the comment in question, so you can copy and paste that link.

It would be nice to have a slightly simpler way of doing this, but it'll do as a getaround for now.

  • Nice one Sporky, works perfectly, cheers   :)

Another thought, as you have been kind enough to share your wisdom, is that there should be a repository for all these goodies, so that they are not lost, but shared with the whole community in an "access on demand" sort of way.

Maybe something like a "How to use this forum" or "FAQ" announcement in Meta (with basic instructions), but accesses from a clearly labeled link in the stickies at the top of each section (maybe renamed to something like "Rules and FAQs").  That way you guys can add useful stuff in an easy to access way.  (and we can't fiddle with it)

It might even make people read the rules too !
(maybe a vain hope on my part, that one)
& they may then even put locations in their profiles, and post prices in their adverts.  (now that's comparable to "the north face of the Eiger"  ;)

I'll bet that these three smilies don't all work here either, (I just can't seem to get the hang of them)

This little tid-bit of advice on linking is really useful sometimes.  It would also allow you to put the "how the hell do I post a picture" wisdom on one easily accessible place, which given how easy it is to do, but how often I see this would be a great service to all on here.  More pictures of "guitar porn" and interesting videos can only make this a richer place to be involved with.
    :)

Right click on the post time and 'Copy Link Location' or 'Send Link' or 'Open Link in New Tab' to check then grab it from the address bar..

    Nice one @hywelg,
that's one downside to a Mac, Steve Jobs decided in the early 80s that the mouse looked better with one button, and us Mac guys have had to suffer that ever since.  He obviously never had real mice in the garage where Apple started, or he would have realised that real mice have 2 ears and 2 eyes, that's balanced stereo symmetry, natures elegant solution.

I never thought of trying control-click, so thanks for that - wisdom truely earned.

Interesting heirarchy of responses and solutions to this one too  :)       edit <<< see those bloody smilies have got it in for me, I tell you. edit

Ok, since I updated my Java I've been having problems with this site. I use NoScript with my Firefox, and although everything (except Google analytics) is enabled on theFB, I can't give wisdoms etc or bookmark a thread without getting an error telling me to enable Java. Which it is? I also can't seem to format text. This post should be on three separate lines, but when I post it, it'll all be mashed together. Whats going on here then?

    Ta Sporky.

I find my midweek foruming is more and more via mobile. This site's mobile version is far better than the old place (and most other forums for that matter)

  • I would like to make a complaint about your barmy rule of not being able to say in a listing "I'm open to all trades"
Its my listing and I will say I'm open to whatever I like!
If I limit myself to saying Other pedals or another guitar fine that narrows it down but getting grief from a mod for saying "I'm open to all trades" when I am is really heavy handed and quite draconian.
When I list something I always say will give more info... What is wrong with people contacting you with offers, that's half the fun isn't it?

So could you please change your policy.
If I want to put "open to all offers" when I am then I should be allowed to!
There will be times when I want something specific and I will state this.

I used MR for years and never had this problem.
