I have two keen junior Chris Packhams, and we currently have a dead barn owl that will one day be a set of beautifully cleaned bones.....a Kestrel would be a worthy addition! (see my "what to do with a dead owl" thread")

Do royal mail allow postage of dead animals?

According to some of the RSPB experts, chances are the kestrel was taking risks due to hunger caused by the cold snap. If it did hit the window, which I think is highly likely, it may well have been seriously injured as a result.
Poor, little thing. Kestrels are probably my favourite birds.
    It didn't hit a window.

For the last few weeks, it's been roosting above where we found it yesterday.  After we found it yesterday, it flew off into one of the trees, where it stayed a while (we were watching it, watching us).

No signs of any damage to it, and it was huddled in a corner this morning like it was cold and trying to find the most sheltered spot.   We  put some raw meat out for it yesterday, but that was untouched.
Having trouble posting images here?  This might help.

Might be worth sending the corpse to either the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology or the Predatory Bird Monitoring Scheme for study, especially if you're sure that it hadn't hit a window.
Edit: apparently one and the same:

    RIP Kes.

I love seeing birds of prey and get excited when I see a buzzard, and occasionally, living up here, an eagle.
Last year I visited my cousin in the US, whilst on a boat trip on the St Croix river, I saw a flock of about 15-20 big birds.
"What are those?" I asked my cousin.
"Oh, just eagles or vultures" she replied, disinterested.

Round where I live we get lots of Red Kites, they actually fly around over my street wheeling around in the wind, beautiful birds.

I was driving down one of the back roads near me and one wheeled down a bit far and flared out a few feet above my windscreen, it looked as surprised as I was!
