I pretty much always wear a button shirt. T-shirts make me feel uncomfortable around the neck and arms.
A lot of the time, especially in this weather, I lift the collar 'Cantona Stylee' to protect my neck from the sun. I also like the comfort of a collar snug around my neck.
My mother in law (think Grant Wood's American Gothic) cannot stand this. She always tucks it back down saying "oh, your collar is all sticking up" and when I put it back she appears to be personally offended.
Is there an unwritten rule that I'm yet to receive about this? Am I sending out subliminal messages of arrogance that I'm unaware of?
Thoughts?

Come to think of it she is a Cliff Richard fan!
Or get your wife to have a conversation with her about body autonomy and personal space. Then get her to have a word with you about dressing like a grown-up.
But not touch you.
Alternative ways to protect your neck from the sun - grow your hair long, wear decent sunscreen, get a nice silk scark/neckerchief.
Although I'm fairly restrained - generally blues / whites / greens - in comparison i probably come across like Henry Blofeld.
