This is the 40th solo of the Month (SotM) Challenge.
The challenge is now open, and remains open for submissions until 11:30pm on 23rd September 2018.
Here's this month's backing track (you can download it from soundcloud). Record your solo over the top of it and then submit it (ideally in mp3 format) to solos@theFB.co.uk
Also, feel free to comment on how you approached the solo, which will add a bit more interest and maybe we can learn something from each other.
Discussion: A punk style was suggested by
@flying_pie during last month's SotM. So here's an attempt at a punk style backing track. I'm not sure if I've succeeded.
Track Title: Flying_punk
Tempo:217 bpm
Chords
[D C G Bb A
D C G F ] x4
End on D
The backing track has 4dB of headroom to add your solos. Add your solo and (as a guideline) try to avoid boosting the overall level beyond that if possible. That way the entries should be at roughly the same level and we won't get into loudness wars.
Voting will start soon after the submission deadline of 23rd September 2018, with each voter selecting their 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice.
First choice gets 5 points - Second choice gets 3 points - Third choice gets 1 point
Voting will end on 11.30pm 30th September 2018
The order and scores of the top three entries will be announced soon after the voting ends. If there are 8 or more entries, then the order and scores of those in the top half will be announced.
No prizes. It's just for fun.
It's not a competition.
Comments
Hopefully it will translate ok into playing. I've gone for voice emulation rather than shred
Thanks again for running the challenges - very enjoyable again.
Two entries in the playlist in the original post.
And that makes 3 entries in the playlist.
Added to the playlist. That makes 4 so far.
Weirdly, having now had a listen to the playlist, I notice @flying_pie 's initial melody is quite similar to my underlying harmony melody, but I'm claiming original copyright since I hummed mine into my phone recording on 7th Sept, and I still have it .
For some reason this backing track made my think of "Saved by the bell" - that TV programme for kids back in the 80s or 90s I guess.
I'll see you in court.
With Billie Joe Armstrong and Noodles (from Offspring) suing us both
Two more entries in the playlist, making a total of 6.
