These mixes confirm how special these jams are. For anyone not there on the day these mixes capture the great individual and band performances, incredible given we all learn our part of the songs, turn up and play. Just amazing.

Good work @roberty @Vibetronic . Yeah, sloppy but mainly in time, pleased about that, its something I’ve been working on, but doing it with a band, chuffed. I think Ironman 2 overall better in terms of my guitar playing, with a heavier amp setting on the kemper, but a better solo on 1. Solos aren’t great, pretty scrappy and sloppy, but a good experience for me, that pressure of having only one shot at it. They sound more of a low fi rough type grunge solo than a slick metal thing, a bit early Kim Thayil, one of my guitar heroes. I think the low E thing behind the headstock messed up the tuning on 1. Also, playing standing up is something I haven’t done in years. Playing was more enjoyable than listening back, but chuffed to have these recordings for prosperity. Sorry gone on a bit, downing a bottle of wine :)

As @brocco assured me it would be at the start of this thread, it was a fantastic experience and I value the opportunity and encouragement from you all. It’s given me a hell of a confidence boost. Please do another!
I think the solos sound great, loads of attitude and character. I agree your rhythm parts were tighter on take 2, perhaps feeling more confident by then

@mrkb - nice efforts....For me the stereo field is a little too wide, I would try using a short reverb on the rhythm guitars ( on both songs ) but pan the reverb to the opposite side.
    Cherrs Tim,
i brought the guitars in for the second track.

How would I pan the fx to the other side? Would that need the rhythm guitar sending to an effects bus and the bus panned to the other side?

Are there any simple (with a few presets) vst effects that are cheap/free? I’m using reapers native plugins (which are complex) and ezmix (which are too simple- only have 2 dials to tweak), any recommendations?
Yep set up an aux channel with the fx and then send the guitar to aux. You can probably set the pan on the send depending on your DAW

I used only native pro tools plugs because I can't figure out how to install any new ones :sob:

    @roberty good skills mate!

@Vibetronic I watched you RIP that solo in the room, and I'm *still* gobsmacked playing it back now! Top work mate

My top @vibetronic solo of the day was the first take of Be Yourself, not even recorded!
Nah, it didn’t capture the spirit of the original and go Wah,Wah,Wah,Wah,Whakka, Whakka, Wah !
Legend he is, but just for once, move over Morello let @Vibetronic  take over; the Fretboard’s Shredmaster General.
cheers chaps I would have tried to make it more authentic, but I didn't want to mess up Tim's Kemper by trying to find a wah setting

It sounded nice and confident to me - and (importantly) it fitted the song. If you and the audience enjoyed it then it's all good - so job done  =)

We seem to have gone a little off script with recordings... I've lost track of who's doing / done what. Can people please post in the other thread so I can update the list.

Once all the mixes are done I'd be happy to host them all in one place temporarily for download as a whole album.

How did you get the drums so punchy on that?! I'm guessing it's compression - you've got the snare how I wanted to get it to sound (but failed!).

Yes this is easiest....just send to the Aux with a plate Reverb or similar, pan that aux L or R and mix to suit....Ive just done exactly this on My Hero mix.

Schepps Omni on the Kick & snare..its got some great presets for drums, it could have been super punchy if I could be bothered to gate everything but with no OH it would sound bad I think.

Also used a basic compressor on default setting....nothing special.

Used Ozone 8 on Master Bus.

Listening to some of these guys ..Im really impressed how well they came out, it didnt seem anywhere near as tight in the room, but everyone surpassed themselves in learning parts and executing on the day.

The bar is raised slightly for the next time...

The performances were actually crap...it was all down to the recording kit being setup right ;)
