Installing a humbucker cover

If a humbucker is not wax-potted, then does that mean that I wouldn’t need to use to use wax if I install a cover?

I would have thought it depends on how much gain you play with. I always like to put a thin layer if wax between the cover an the top of the bobbins just to damp them down a touch.

You can use a blob of silicone bath sealant on top of the bobbins instead of wax ... that works fine.

I find double sided tape has very little 'cushioning' effect ... and if the tape is too grippy, can make removal of the cover again next to impossible.

Perfect ... don't use too much however

I've got a covered humbucker that howls with distortion. I think I'm gonna have to do this.
