I wondered how long it'd take to get these to market after the HoF came out...

hmm - the flashback is kinda relevant to my interests but I'd already undertaken to make a Madbeans Zero Point Micro II delay :D

as for the rest ... the reverb yes... tis interesting.
A sig-nat-eur? What am I meant to use this for ffs?! Is this thing recording?

Why am I not surprised they haven't done the drive pedals.

  • These look great - the flashback even has tap tempo through the audio tap/strum feature. However, for me the modulation pedals seem the better deal, since their big brothers only come with a couple of presets anyway - whereas with the flashback you have a whole range of models straight away. I wont be replacing my shaker or flashback X4, but I could be tempted by the other two (although I have access to some flange in my shaker through the toneprint editor, there are no toneprints on the app for it so it's much more inconvenient to change).

They should do a multi-effects where you can put any toneprint in any slot. They'd clean up with that.

Long ago I predicted a Modulation x4, but they've still not gone with my idea :-(

But yes you can see a 'vanilla' toneprint pedal being on the cards that can be loaded with any sound from the app, something that Neunaber do with their "Slate" pedal.

Hmm. My feeling about TC's range of pedals is it gets worse as Tore gets more trendy...

The digitech istomp would've been great if it wasn't for:

    iOS only.
    Pay for pedals.
Having to use the specialist cable rather than beaming to the pedal.

It's great if you have an iphone now that all the pedals are free though.
Also, the flashback can have modulation toneprints through the editor - in the 4 slots on my X4 I have "sci fi FX", a flanger, a chorus and a ring modulator thing - but you don't have access to all the actual modulation toneprints.

Yes I'm surprised they haven't done something a bit like the Zoom G3 with multi-fx and tone-print loading.

I'm pretty sure G-System and Nova System are due for an upgrade. I would expect something before the end of the year.

I'm wondering if parallels can be drawn with mobile phones here ?. They (phones) were the size of a house brick when they came out, then there was a race to shrink them to the size of a sheep's testicle before they grew again to semi tablet size albeit so thin you could shave with it.

I fully expect the arrival of a set of pedals in 2018 that you will carry around in your obsolete CD case.

    Or maybe not :))

Agreed, I'd buy that soooo fast.

I won't be surprised if the Toneprint MkIII's end up having a vanilla pedal there that can be used.

The downside of that though is the business model - you might sell less units overall, and may struggle to encourage users to upgrade to newer hardware releases with higher processing power etc. For that reason, I can't see them doing it for much beyond a drive pedal, given the inherent simplicity of the effect compared to some others perhaps?

I agree. I convinced myself a G-system was a great idea some months back. Then went to watch a band that were using one and saw how big it is! Where does your right foot go if your singing and playing at the same time? Helped me stick to my current 'Less is more' approach.

The tap function on the Flashback via the hold and strum is a poor idea imo. If you need to adjust the tempo mid tune then there is a two or three second drop out as you hold and strum the beat. I don't know why they couldn't have configured this via a hold and tap on the switch or something.

You just need to change every song in your set to have a drum intro.

Yeah it works really well but not good if you want to carry on playing while changing delay tempo! I love the tap on the X4 - and on the old Nova repeater which it replaced on my board. In fact I'd go as far as to say the tap tempo switch is the one switch on your pedalboard that needs to be easy to use and easy to get to, that's why for me its front and centre :)

I hate all these little pedals, they look like toys! Big is beautiful.
