What do you do when your bass player can't jam?

Get to work on a POG2!

Ours couldn't make tonight so us 3 got to writing with some ideas that I've had and frankly it was fucking awesome. As was Monday night when we had no drummer.

Now maybe no fucker else will ever enjoy what we've written but I utterly love writing/recording/playing when you get "that" buzz.

Anyways, tonight's buzz was helped in no small part by my POG2 and I just thought I'd share that.

Good to see you getting good use of it. Had one on my board for a while but it got little use apart from letting me jam out a decent sounding 'Golden Brown' on guitar :(
    Seemed like a good idea.....

On a similar theme, the discontinued and now rare Able Bassmaker acted like an octaver but also played suggested simple bass patterns based on your chords

An ad for them ran for ages in the back of Guitarist mag during the 80's and they were pretty cheap. I'm also kicking myself for not buying one.

I was kind of feeling like that until this week. I generally just use one of my available sounds but it sounded perfect last night.

Working with a bass player we'll end up sounding lir Monkey Boy!

It's quite common for bass players to be unable to jam so just write the bass parts for him :)

On the contrary, ive never known a bassist to play the same thing once so I'd say they were constantly jamming, though granted not always with what the rest of the band were jamming at the same time
Please note my communication is not very good, so please be patient with me

My bass player can jam, but it's always minor key riffing in the style of RATM and he never remembers to leave gaps between the notes.

    Then the sweating starts.

Thing is that in many styles of music the bass is such an important factor in arrangements that you dont really want them jamming all the time. A good bass player knows when is appropriate.

    RATM, Fugazi, Nirvana riffs.

...it's pretty fucking sweet to be honest jamming with my bass player.

Yes exactly, hence why I've not played with bass players for around 5 years :)
