The sound of a cranked 18-watt tube amp is one we've all heard before -- its classic drive sound quite literally defined a genre or ten of music and has been done and redone and redone again by almost every boutique amp builder on the planet. The Suhr Badger 18 takes this sound and adds a few key features, allowing for the tones of both master- and non-master volume amps. In addition to the classic 3-band EQ and gain controls, the interdependent Power and Drive section takes you through a host of clipping and power amp distortion options going from wide open drive to ultra-compressed power tube sag.

 The Suhr Badger 18 is a hand wired 18 watt masterpiece that delivers the complete range of British style tones. Whether sparkly cleans or smooth gain output are your thing, the Badger performs at every level.

The Suhr Badger is a single channel amp that dynamically interacts with your guitar's volume control and responds to your playing style. The cathode biased power section lends itself to dynamic, spongey tones and requires no bias adjustment when replacing power tubes.

 The Suhr Badger 18 is a single channel all valve amp head that has been designed to offer a versatile range of sounds from clean to heavy crunch with full power scaling built in. Even at 18w this amplifier is seriously loud and if this can't fill the room you will probably be using a mic'ed up cab anyway.

From Clean to Extreme and Everything in between

All on a single channel by utilizing the power, drive and gain controls you can go from high headroom cleans to crushing overdrives at bedroom volume without any pedals needed. This amp is seriously versatile with just one channel and 6 knobs. Your gain, treble, middle and bass work as you would expect but the drive and power controls are what really makes this amp shine.

The drive control is kind of like a master volume control that works alongside the gain control like your regular amplifier. The power control is actually a power attenuator that can take your amplifier from next to nothing coming out the speaker to the full 18w of power. So no matter what sized stage you are on you can get the Badger 18 to sound great.

Like all Suhr amps this has been built at their USA facility where top notch engineers and high quality components come together to make magical amplifiers. This means that not only will your amp sound great every night but it will also last for many years to come. After trying out any of the badger range of amps you will be amazed at just how much they can do with one channel.

All of the Badgers have different tube set ups. This 18w version uses 2x EL84, 3x 12AX7 and 1 5Y3GT Rectifier valve to keep this amplifier loud and smooth.

POWER

Power Scaling emulates the tonal response of a high wattage amp on 10, at manageable volumes. Power controls the voltage that feeds the output section and in turn, the wattage. As you lower the voltage of the power section you are reducing the amount of signal it can handle before clipping the output section. To compensate for this we use the "Drive" control so you can easily scale down to 4 watts without losing tone & feel. 

DRIVE

Feeds the input to the power section. With Power at 10 it acts as a master volume. As a rule of thumb, when you turn down the Power always set the Drive control within 2 numbers of the Power setting. If you set the drive lower than the power it will sound brighter, like a "master volume" amp.

GAIN

Controls the amount of preamp gain by controlling 2 cascading gain stages simultaneously to drive the input stage.

TONE CONTROLS

Bass, Middle and Treble tone controls for each channel are post-gain and passive cut-style. We recommend starting around 5 and dialing to taste. As you increase Gain and/or Drive we recommend dialing back the Bass to retain clarity and definition in the low-end.
