I'd say Horizon is a much better driving game than any of the simulations. It's fun. They aren't.

  • I have a racing sim set up. If you play GT,  Assetto Corsa, or Forza Motorsport and then play Horizon, they're like a world apart from it.
I have a sim setup too. I know the difference, and play all those titles. Horizon's physics aren't a million miles from GT/FM - it's more the setting and gameplay that's different. You can play Horizon more seriously - I've found it makes a great rally game when creating your own courses.

GT7 is not a racing sim. It may have been the closest thing on a console many years ago. Today it sits somewhere in between a true arcade like need for speed and a console sim like AC.

GT7 is closer to a sim than FH5 in the sense it is all track based racing, but the physics are very similar. On graphics and fun factor, FH5 is miles ahead.

Then go out and drive it, rather than playing a driving game?

Let me drive it for 10 minutes, it'll be on fire at least.

@Sporky have you played viscera cleanup detail? It is a bit like power wash sim, but with a mop, and takes place in various locations after... Something? Has happened there. Equally satisfying, and an interesting take on action and horror - we never think about the poor souls who have to clean up when an alien breaks loose in the movies!

Buggeration - bought a usb c hub/dock that's meant to work with both the Steam Deck and Switch.

Tried it with both last night and got no signal to the monitor I'm using.  Tried them both on battery and with power through the dock and still got nothing.  Either it doesn't bloody work or there's an issue with either the HDMI -> DP cable I'm using or the DP input on the monitor.  Going to try it straight to the HDMI input tonight but I don't have high hopes.

You can't go from an HDMI output to a DP input with just a cable. DP to HDMI works because most DP outputs can switch between the DP micropackets format and the TDMS format that underlies HDMI and DVI-D.

There are HDMI to DP converters but they tend to be either expensive or completely rubbish.

Cheers, that'll teach me believe an item description on Amazon.  The monitor only has the one HDMI input which has a chromecast in it so I suspect the easiest way to get it to work is an HDMI splitter.
