Anyone like the relic look on the tweed cabinets?

    I love the lacquered tweed look. Doesn't have to be reliced/tatty, although a grizzled old tweed amp is certainly a beautiful thing.

    I like them lacquered mostly because I really don't like the unlacquered dirty look.

    No its a fake @hootsman, its a champion 600, I stripped off the old tolex and cut the front to look like a narrow panel made a new baffle and covered it in tweed, it's quite thick tweed;

    It's also modded internally to a 5E1 circuit.

    No probs.

    Amp after tweed put on:

    Shellac going on... was amber shellac iirc:

    Once the shellac had dried I hit it with a couple of coats of clear satin ronseal diamond hard varnish... be careful to not let it build up around the seams and try not to get any drips anywhere... thin coats!!!!

    It’s done 100’s of gigs since then and still looks good!..

    I shellac'd mine last year, looks great and I really enjoyed doing it.  Gonna use shellac for my current guitar project too...

    Oh Lordy.. I just love lacquered tweed, especially those smokey finishs. My Blue Jr, 5E7 clone and Swart are all tweed.
    I remember lusting after the Fender Smokey tweed blues deluxe a few years ago:

    @poopot, how did you manage to get such an even finish with the shellac? It looks gorgeous.

    Shellac is great .....use it often for French Polishing but really any stain varnish will give you exactly the same look after 2 coats
