Trills, how to get them sounding right

Recently I have been attempting (aka butchering) The Air That I Breathe, the version by The Hollies.  The intro has a lovely bent note followed by a trill.  No matter what I do, the trill sounds weak and plain bad!  I could select and fret two adjacent strings to get the same effect but this sounds wrong too, tonally wrong.

Any help or guidance is much appreciated .  Thanks.

There are two things to practice. Hammering on to increase the power and cleanliness of the hammer. Pulling off slightly sideways to get a pull-off volume which matches the hammer-on volume.
