I really want to learn to swell notes the way Knopfler does with his volume pedal.
It will be the only thing between my guitar and amp so what doesn't suck tone ??
There are so many out there !!
I quite like the Dunlop Volume X, anyone use one ?
Opinions/suggestions please.
( except the Ernie Ball as I know they suck tone big time )

I haven't used one myself but i have seen a lot of pros using these.

From my understanding it is buffered so it doesnt suck your tone.

  • I've got the Dunlop DVP-1, which is the one that came before the X so its just volume, no expression mode.

    I LOVE IT!

Get your hands on one, seriously. Its got a metal band for the movement and its adjustable so you can have it free and loose or tight and tough. Its big, and takes up the full depth of my Diago showman and its built like a ruddy tank. Some volume pedals can feel a bit weak under the foot I find, but this one is solid and you can lean into it to get some real fine action going on it.

This.  Had a few and this one is by far the best.

I use the DVP1 too. It is bloody massive but apart from that it is spot on.

The Volume X seems to be the same as the DVP1 but slightly smaller, which makes it more appealing to me.
I'm also looking at the Mission volume without the buffer as I dont need another buffer.
The Dunlop is passive but the Mission is active which makes me think tone suck will be less of an issue.
    So many choices !!!!!

I use the Ernie Ball Junior Volume Pedal which is small as you suggested and find it is great for swells.

As you said the Volume X is similar to a DVP1 but smaller, so if size is an issue then the Volume X would be a good choice for you.

    Good luck making the choice!
