Heretical Rik 12 to 6 question

Having found myself down (temporarily I dare say) to one electric, a Rik 360/12, would it be practical to take the high octave strings off for a spell and use it as a 6 string?! I imagine the truss rods might move a little, the strings would be a bit off kilter and it would offend my delicate sensibilities but has anyone done the same?

I’ve seen it done. Fine I’m sure.

    Sacrilege!

@MikeS might be a decent source of info: I bought his 360/12 that he’d been using as a 6. Seemed buzzy as hell as a 6 when I got it, but nothing a decent set up wouldn’t cure. Putting another 6 strings with their attendant tension sorted all problems for me...

It worked for Fred 'Sonic' Smith...

I know the relationship, but he really does remind me of Patti Smith...

Yes, I did this for a while before I got a 6-string Ric. It worked fine, even without touching the trussrod, although obviously that depends on the set-up you want and ymmv etc.

    I did it years ago
adjust truss rod and took extra tuners off as they confused me. Worked fine
