Guitar fretboard absorbed smell...

What's Hot
brooombrooom Frets: 1193
A bit of an odd thing happened... I grilled some fish on my backyard and a suhr with a rosewood fretboard near inside my garage which seems to have absorbed some of the smell into the fretboard wood.

Is there any way to get rid of it, it's just a bit annoying.

Music Nomad’s F-One Oil is possibly your best bet.

The wood of a fretboard absorbs all oils, so the fish oil got sucked in. Polish and clean and polish and clean with the F-One might help.

Lem-oil has fragrance which might cover the smell of the fish a bit, but ultimately you want it gone.

Possibly naphtha, or Dunlops 2 stage fretboard kit, the first stage being pretty much a naphtha type solution.

They evaporate fast, and I feel like it might take the odour with it.

Both dry the board out so you could condition it afterwards with lemon oil.
The dunlop kit comes with a fretboard conditioner as stage 2.

Some parsley sauce should mask it a little - failing that, get the neck battered....

Saying that, as a first and free port of call you could try just plain old water on a cloth.
Or even your own breath/saliva (its decent at breaking down grime believe it or not!)

Only very slightly damp mind, you dont want much at all.

Water evaporates faster too, which is why like me it dries my hands out.

But if the fishy smell isnt too ingrained it might just work.

+ its a Suhr so go easy as its expensive!

I had actually thought about just cleaning it with a slightly damp cloth. So might give that a try before the rest. I do play the guitar a lot, so the smell might not be that engrained, but as it's probably my most played guitar at the moment, it becomes noticeable.

You could also try bicarbonate of soda in the case overnight. It absorbs all kind of smells.
