Flanger pain

What's Hot

I acquired a line 6 Flanger, PMT are selling them for £25, it arrived and yesterday evening I plugged in to try it out. Amp on clean, the pedal powered up active so off we go. Sounds like a Flanger, so we have lift off, I make some adjustments, not much change, so I twiddle some more, there’s some whining but not much change. Switch to ‘chorus' mode, some change but not the jangly sound I was expecting. I drop the verb off on the amp and deactivate the pedal, no change, bugger,  I’ve bought a dud.

So from this point on my brain is in “document whats' wrong in preparation for sending it back“ mode.

I read the instructions and figure out how to turn the pedal off, (press harder!)

But I can still hear the flanger effect, even with the pedal deactivated, definitely the characteristic swooshing sound.

I glance at my THR, wait for it, I’d left the effects knob in “Flanger” from the previous use……….Duh.

Pedal is fine actually, built like a tank in fact,……… operator is defective.

    Haha!

I have one of those pedals, (selling it for the same price if anyone's interested) and they are built to survive anything!  Good pedal with lots of classic flanger sounds.  Funnily enough I've currently chosen the Ibanez FL-9 for my board which is way more subtle.  Hey ho.

Glad you got it sussed :)

  • I bought a reverb pedal and thought the simplest way to try it out was just through my Mustang I , so fired that up. Turned the pedal on as well. OMG , what a lot of reverb! Started twiddling the knobs, the reverb level went down a bit but not much. Thought I don't like this and turned the pedal off. Forgot the Mustang defaults to a pre set when you turn it on , most of which have reverb or delay. Doh! turned reverb off on the amp and started again. So, my sympathies - that feeling of frustration replaced by minor elation replaced by concern for your own stupidity is not unfamiliar to me!

    Haha, brilliant.

Also, I like the tap-tempo function of the Liqua-Flange, I wish more flangers had this.

Agreed, and now I know why the instructions specifically say "Tap lightly" for this function.

    Oh dear,

I note also that they have a Line 6 'otto' filter pedal for £19 or the module to fit the Line 6 pedal base for £10.

Not sure if I need an 'otto' though, whatever that is?

an envelope filter that nobody on the internet seems to like apart from Sporky IIRC. Cheap though.

So if we told you about a new brothel would you have to try that?

Good call on the flanger though

Seems to have more knobs than most Flangers, and during last night's test I didn't mange to remember what it all does, probably more to do with my confusion over the 'phantom flanging' going on at the time.

Seems to be a blowout on the Tonecore pedals. Dolphin are doing the Otto Filter pedal with the Tap Tremolo module so you can switch them out for £30, tempted!

Looking on the Line 6 web site, they seem to have discontinued a few of their products from the tonecore line, if you now want a Line 6 'Flanger' they refer you to the 'M' range. Although they do seem to list the modules.

I like the sound of the Roto-Machine, (leslie speaker sim) can't find the module for sale anywhere though.
