I don't suppose anyone's figured out the chords to this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Og3ZYBu8t3U

I can manage some of it, but some of it just eludes me.

Anyone?

    Broadly speaking it’s
    verse: A A D D/E; A A D D E;

    Chorus: G#m C#7 F#m E; D E A.

    Bridge: D C#m; D E A: D C#m; F#m B7 Bm E

There are lots of nice voicings, suspensions and inversions - this is really the most basic structure above. We can do it in more detail if you like.
Roland said: Scales are primarily a tool for categorising knowledge, not a rule for what can or cannot be played.
Supportact said: [my style is] probably more an accumulation of limitations and bad habits than a 'style'.

"Broadly speaking", yes :) (Thanks, btw)

Ben Watt uses some nice "jazzy" embellishments.

eg. The first "A" chords he fingers A and Asus(add9), then Dmaj7, then E9.

There's something nice going on with the G#m but I can't figure that out.

G#m is 4x442x, then switch the two middle fingers to x4342x for the C#7. Pinky and pointer finger stay where they were.

There's a nice story about her. Some time after EBTG sort of stopped being famous she settled down and started a family and really didn't speak much about her time as a pop star. When her daughter was old enough to go to school she used to walk her to the local school and started making friends with the other mums and dads. None of them knew about her past. She just never really mentioned it because she's not that sort of person. Then one day she was walking with her friends along the pavement in London, all with little children in tow, when a blacked-out limo swept past them and skidded to noisy streaky stop ahead, then came barreling back down the road in reverse and stopped where they were. The back window slid down and it was George Michael inside. He yelled Tracey! Tracey! How's it going girl! I knew it was you! It's been so long! Wow! We must do coffee soon! I've still got your number - I'll call ya! Byeeeeeeee!!" and off he went again.

If you don’t know it, check out her first album A Distant Shore. Some nice tunes on it.

Their song “this love is not for sale” haunted me for 2 years. I can’t put my finger on what it is about it.

I first heard her, Ben Watt, and EBTG on Pillows & Prayers, the Cherry Red sample released in 1982, same sort of era as her first solo album. Lovely stuff.

Her books are very good ( she writes for newspapers a bit as well).
Tipton is a small fishing village in the borough of Sandwell.

  • Here's my very rough take on the Intro and Verse part. Don't take the picking literally. It's just a general idea.

Nice - that's really useful. I'll give it a whirl this evening.

    Thanks,

  • ... and I think this is roughly what's happening in the Bridge. If you've got Guitar Pro 7, I can send you the files. Or alternatively the audio mp3 exports from Guitar Pro so you can hear it.

I have GP7 - that would be useful, thanks.

Here's a link to a folder containing the GP7 files and mp3 exports. The original seems to speed up quite a bit for the Bridge so it's at a faster tempo. It's only a rough idea of what I think is going on.

You did most of the work.

I used your chords as the basis for the transcription. No doubt your better ears will hear a few errors

I’m sure not. Ear by the way - I only have one :)
