Fender 1974 Custom Restore Advice - North based Guitar Tech

Hey everyone,

I own a 1974 Fender Custom which I love but it doesn't get used as it has some faults. The guitar pickups seem to be microphonic so when I knock the guitar body with my knuckle it comes through the amplifier. Also the pick ups are very imbalanced both in tone and volume. The bridge pick being VERY bright which has nice characteristics but then the neck being very boomy. I'm not sure if the pick ups need looking at and this could be rectified or if swapping them out might be a better option. The volume knobs also take so much top end off when rolled back 1/10. I'm basically wanting to make this guitar a useable work horse rather than a nice old guitar sat unused otherwise I may as well swap it for something more modern. Hope someone has some advice and thanks in advance.

Charles

  • Hi Charles, Give Sam Orr a shout, or of course Matt Bascetta. Hope you’re well.
