Decent Gear review channels for Rock/Grunge style players

What's Hot

So there's loads of great gear review channels out there, however, I'm struggling to find a decent channel(s) that bases their gear reviews by playing more straight up rock stuff (Foos, PJ, QOTSA etc) TPS is great, but anything that's not blues seems to flummox them so they don't play the gear how I would want to hear it demoed....on the flip side there seems to be a plethora of Metal dudes that chug away until their hearts are content....again not playing in the context I want to hear gear reviewed in to see if it's up my alley.

Am I missing anything glaring....decent production/sound quality a must...I mean what's the point otherwise.

  • This is where PGS/ReverbAndy shines. Happy playing anything from 60's rock & roll up to Metallica, and he's always happy to chuck in some 90's indie/grunge/rock type stuff when it suits the gear

  • I agree with PGS, too much blues.
anderson's at least try different things, I never much cared for Rob's playing, Lee has improved a lot and Pete's a great player.
But I would like some indie, shoegaze, etc, I think JHS covers some of that

  • Yeah, just looking for something where the demonstrator's wheelhouse is firmly in kinds traditional rock...not too metally, not too indie, defo not blues (even though I do like the blues, it's more than well covered off)

I'd forgotten about Andy Demos, yes he's pretty good at covering all genres.

Guitar Manifesto is very focussed on Nirvana, short scale guitars and the like.

Not my fav channel, but might be what you are looking for.

Pete Thorn? Though they are demos, not reviews.

Personally I think everything Pete Thorn plays ends up sounding like Pete Thorn rather than the gear. I like his vids and he;s an incredible player for sure, but I don't ever really glean that much about the gear from his vids.

Pete Thorn and Ola are the best channels because they show you that if you stop worrying about gear and put the practice in you can make everything sound great.

My new favourite channel is Zach Wish. He gets awesome tones and always plays good riffs, lots of grungy stuff in there too. He's only a small channel at the minute but it's exactly what you're after I think.

    Edit - prime example:

The products may differ with andertons but its all the same blues drivel
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

Absolutely, always where I look first for gear reviews/demos. It's a double-edged sword, though, because with the right song/his playing ability, he can get a great sound out of pretty much any pedal, so you always run the risk of buying something that you can't get a great sound out of because... well, I'm not Andy.
