£70 from Thomann

The GPA-400 is fairly well regarded so this should hopefully be a worthy alternative to the lesser liked Thunder 99 (and cheaper too).

Until this I'd been eyeing up a Hotone Loudster.

    Looks interesting

I'm guessing it's a clone of the Seymour Duncan Power Stage amps.

  • I've found the GPA 400 to be awesome. Might give this a try as I don't need that much power!

Looks to be useful for what I'm trying to put together, a small power amp in a funky looking cab so I ca use my modelling preamp into it if I need to play in public.

Looks cheap at £70, half the price of the EHX 44 Magnum. proper kettle lead as well and not one of those noisy laptop style psu things.

Though I would need to be careful as it's 100w and my speaker is only 50w, d'oh
Please note my communication is not very good, so please be patient with me

    Very interested.
Using a matrix GT at the moment but most the time it's overkill and full rack size is awkward

  • @thecolourbox you'll have absolutely no issues with a 100w solid state power amp driving a 50w 8ohm speaker trust me.

  • @joehindley103 ;

would that be the same for my 100W 4ohm speaker and the 190watts that this thing belts out?

  • @paulphoenix absolutely. Solid state power into a speaker is not 1:1. If anything typically you'll be looking for double solid-state power to the speaker rating. It's not the same as you would treat a valve power amp and speaker match up.

  • It is crazy how cheap they manage to make things.

So who's going buy one and tell us if they are any good?

  • £70! How do they make them so cheap! You could buy two and expect one to blow up a year and it’d still be cheaper than a Duncan power stage. I’ve got no gigs until July, or rehearsals anytime soon, but a small cab and couple of these might make a easy to move rig when I do.

Does the volume work backwards? Looks like 0dB on the right and the infinity symbol on the left.
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

    It's minus infinity.

It's a scale relative to peak power.

    Ah. Missed the minus sign.

Can I ask what this means? Why is "no sound" minus infinity, and "effing loud" is "0db"?  Why not 1 - 10 or something sensible?

It'll be referring to signal attenuation .... But I agree, 0-10 would make more sense to most.

...I'll wait till the ones that go to 11
