Gore-Tex and guitar springs?

In an article following the death of Robert Gore, the inventor of Gore Tex, the BBC web site says "Among its varied applications, Gore-Tex is used in medical devices including heart patches, guitar springs, space suits, and vacuum bags."

I was wondering why you'd want waterproof whammy bar springs, until I realised they meant guitar strings   as Gore's company makes a coating for Elixir strings.

I read that earlier and they had already fixed it but it was a nice wee thing to learn. Big fan of goretex jackets.
