They do have different frequency centres from other EQs, if that matters. They're also remarkably nice-sounding - the EQ circuit is actually used in a couple of Mesa amps, as a sealed unit with no controls, purely to make the amp sound better. They call it the 'Mojo Module', but really it's just the same four-transistor circuit with no sliders.
Transistors make a valve amp sound better? Yes .

Although it is fair to say the amps do usually have feature sets which aren't often found all at the same time on other amps, and are well-made, so they justify their prices in that sense.
