... and not a standard,  or a gibson amongst them.

Also a kitten learning the joys of untrimmed guitar strings.

Left to right:
* an alternative reality LP custom.  I started building this 2 years ago, then life went crazy and it went into storage... Nice to have it nearly done.  Its fully chambered  and has mini-hums
*my furlough project.  Built like an acoustic arch top, but LP sized.  Fully hollow and hand carved inside and out
*my first LP style build from a while back, parts get swapped every so often.  Its pancake style construction from old stock mahogany
*a Chinese kit I used for practicing finishing.  Tomato soup burst, lightly aged
*my John birch restoration.  Solid maple and 25.5" scale length... its a great guitar, even if its unfashionable in every way

Haha, definitely not.   Luthiers and cats seem to go together though

I'm sure they are all tasty but the Hollowbody would be the one I'd pick up to check out first - Looks cool

So cool. I'd love a chambered Les Paul one day. Is it more 335ish than a regular one?

I love the story that the 'Gibson Les PAul' was potentially going to be the 'Fender Les Paul'....imagine that!

Agreed - as I said in the build thread, something about the look of that guitar just makes me want to pick it up and play it.

I like the way your cat looks taken aback by the sight of these stringed objects....

The hollowbody is not my kind of thing at all, but it looks fantastic.

hard to say on the custom as its not wired yet.  I got it strung last night for the first time so I could drill the bridge.  It definitely sounds different to a solid one at this point, but it is the most chambering I have done.  The different tailpiece changes things as well.  I'm just not sure which of those will translate to the amplified sound.

The hollowbody is a bit of an odd one.  Its built almost like a proper acoustic archtop, but I wasn't expecting much from the acoustic tone as the top is maple rather than spruce, its much smaller, and the f-holes are quite narrow which can choke acoustic efficiency.  It sounds great though.  very clear and bell like on single note runs, quite raucous when strummed hard.  The acoustic volume obviously isn't great, but the tone is much better than I hoped and it translates well when plugged in.

that one is definitely not going anywhere.  its a great guitar, but the shape was slightly off and the early relic finish isn't great.  good excuse to keep it for myself ;)   It originally had the mini-hums in the LPC, but I was keen to try the staples when the LPC got delayed.  I did consider swapping back to make the LPC a little more 50's, and take the pancake one back to 70's

  • On looks alone, that one on the far left has a ton of character. Sure it sounds great too.
