What's Hot

I found myself talking to a pal who has a couple of PRS'. He said he loves them. I sold a couple of guitars recently and since we've  decided to skip the holiday this year I had some money sitting there.

I've always thought of myself as more of a vintage Fender guitar kind of guy, but the numerous ones I've owned have always left me kind of disappointed because the radius isn't easy to play for lead guitar, the tuners are crumbly, the intonation can be an issue, it might need a refret, and sometimes the pickups can go muddy on higher gain stuff, and then there's the high value and risk of taking them out. I still have one that I'll definitely keep but it's more a home bird these days.

So in the last couple of years I've moved to more modern guitars. Musician, Duesenberg and the Gibson Modern line. This PRS was just down the road to me, and I decided to go for it this morning. I thought, if I don't like it the price is so good I'll definitely get my money back so it wasn't a big deal.

I think the Whale Blue looks best, and I saw one on eBay right after I picked this up, but the price on this was good, and I quite like the colour in any case. It's a Custom 24 Core in Autumn Sky.

I had practice this morning and took it straight there. It does sound fantastic, it does feel lovely to play. It's definitely striking, although I do see that it is somewhat gaudy too! The tuners stick out a bit like a sore thumb to me as I'm used to something a bit smaller and traditional looking.

I like it. I'll definitely be playing it for the next few weeks at practice, and I would gig with it, although I have some tried and tested guitars for gigging. My main guitars are my Musician Albert Lee, CS Tele and Gibson SG & LP Modern.

Whether I'll keep it or not long term, I don't know. But it's definitely a lovely instrument. Here's a picture.

Thanks to @ICBM for helping me make sure it is what I thought it was.

  • congrats on that.
Yes I tend to agree on gaudy, but they are a great design and a lot of thought gone into player comfort and access. Enjoy!
I sometimes think, therefore I am intermittent

  • With the tuners, you can look at mini schallers ebony buttons and google if they will fit the existing tuners.

That's actually understated by PRS standards.
I don't know what people've got against them.
The do make exceedingly good guitars.

Yeah that's pretty tasteful for a PRS! I do love their guitars, just not the tacky super flamed or quilted ones, but that goes for any brand including Gibson & Fender. Yours looks awesome

No it isn't. I find them all really quite unattractive. Like an aftermarket walnut dash on an XJ6.

    The Mira looks nice though.
My Trade Feedback Thread is here

Been uploading old tracks I recorded ages ago and hopefully some new noodles here.

The Mira's really good.  I bought a Mira Korina a couple of months ago and it's made me dig out my half-forgotten S2 Mira, which I've been playing quite a lot recently.  Makes me wonder if I should give up on my long-running quest to find a good Gibson SG.  Shame the Mira's been relegated to the SE range nowadays.

    But I digress... nice catch, @Telemaster! ; :)

  • I had a few lessons with a local guitar teacher. He used to be the manager of Guitar Village...all the guitars he actually uses for lessons and gigs (he's in several local bands) are PRS... I asked him why, and he said something along the lines of they're the best!!

  • Welcome to the club mate! That's a gorgeous colour! Make sure you play it, scuff it and chip it as you would any other guitar :)
I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.

Cool guitar. I like PRS to play, but the vibe isn't where I'm at these days. I had a superb CU22 25th anniversary PRS, it was such a sweet guitar.

    You can

It's the tooth. I'm bracing myself for being grilled with a fine tooth comb...

    That’s actually not too bad.
I do generally prefer less fancy guitars, as a rule.
Most of all though, I came to say, “Enjoy your new guitar.” I like it!
And I’m sure it’s a cracking guitar, which is all that matters, really..
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

But a 1970s XJ6 *has* got a factory fitted walnut veneer dash...
    Just saying...
