Household items to clean guitar?

I need to restring some guitars (acoustic and electric) and want to give them a bit of a clean. I'm out of guitar polish so wondered if there is anything safe to use from normal household cleaners? The electrics aren't nitro.

Funnily enough I said in that thread I use dunlop 65.. I switched to Gibbo pump polish and use that now.

I researched Dunlop 65 and I’m sure I found it does contain silicones..

Loads of them do, unfortunately, and despite what may be advertised!

I use Virtuoso polish on my acoustics and electrics. But interesting to note the Brook guys apparently use Auto-Glym (from the thread linked above).
