Elixir Strings not quite right

What's Hot
I have used Elixir strings on guitars for years.

The other day I bought two set from Amazon as I needed them quickly. It's these:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0002E1O7W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_2zdEFbR12EFVF

Usually when I string my acoustic (in this instance) the strings sound really bright and fresh but these sound played in. Th packaging all seemed fine but has anyone else had this experience? Wondering if they are genuine or not

Difficult to comment without photographs of the strings and packaging.

You could have been sent Elixir Polyweb strings in error.

You could have been sold counterfeit strings. (Enough time has elapsed since the packaging redesign for the fakers to have caught up.)

Were the strings supplied by Amazon directly or by a third party seller?
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.

The strings and packaging looks ok.

The strings themselves look fine, its just the sound of them. It was sold by Amazon rather than a 3rd party

  • e-mail Elixir and tell them. Likely they will tell you where to find a batch number on the packaging, which may verify they are the real deal. If so, they can tell you if there has been a change of any sort (coating?). Also, hopefully they might make some goodwill gesture too.
I sometimes think, therefore I am intermittent

  • Could this be an 80/20 bronze vs phosphor bronze thing?

Possibly.  I've sent them a tweet so will see how they respond.

  • It's worth noting that buying direct from Amazon isn't a guarantee you won't end up with fakes because of Amazon's policy of pooling the stock of common branded goods (they call it commingling). Essentially, when you buy certain goods (e.g. a pack of Duracell batteries) on Amazon (either from a third party or Amazon themselves) the goods get sent out from a common stock shared between the retailers.
