Hi everyone,

One of my guitar could do with a fret dress and a set up. I'm based in Manchester and was wondering whether anyone had any recommendations?

Cheers!

Rich

  • If you're near Oldham, Dougie at Tree Creeper guitars is good. If you're towards Glossop, Richard Henry will also do a great job.

I don't know about luthiers, but in terms of techs I can't recommend Jack's Instrument Services highly enough. Really great work, reasonable prices and a great team of guys.

Steve and his team at the Guitar Repair Workshop based in PMT are great as well, but pricier.

Look up Eddie Johnson aka The Riffsmith as well, based just outside Worsley. He's still getting established so is a bit cheaper but he does really good work.

If you’re over Bolton way, Phil Hartley Guitar Repairs is my go to guy and has been for years.

I’ve never had any work done by Phil but I know someone who has (and whose opinion I respect - he’s a pro who plays in Steve Rothery’s band). He reckons Phil does great work.

Thanks everyone, I think I'm going to take it to Matt Ryan. He's responded first to my emails and has a lot of positivity on here. I'm sure the other recommendations are great as well!
