Hi all,
I have a project guitar I built about 12 years ago, and being an impatient teenager I didn't do a very good job of it... I'd like to respray it properly now, however, I handpainted a gecko on it and I'd like to keep that part if possible.
Does anyone have any ideas for how I could accurately mask the gecko?
Also, I must've used quite a coarse brush originally, so I'm thinking of smoothing it out somewhat. Any recommendations for what grit I should use to smooth it without stripping too much paint? I assume something like 400?
For reference, here's a photo:

Masking the existing one is going to give you a sub- great finish.
