I used to draw every single day as a kid, but stopped the day I bought a guitar.
Got back into it briefly a few years ago when an idea popped into my drunken head.

Not sure if this will post or not, but here goes
Love these! Very characterful and I like the intensity of the pen

  • My lad is handy with a pencil, one of my faves..

That's also super, very menacing so he's captured it brilliantly.

I'm only using a mechanical pencil at the moment so shading is off the menu really. The Mrs wants me to buy some pastels to try and I've never really done that, are they difficult to get used to? Messy? I'm imagining a lot of dust residue

Cheers! The first three were a challenge to myself, to draw with pen but without sketching it out first with pencil. So a blank page and you just have to go in, any mistakes are there and have to be dealt with. It's raw!
I woke up on the sofa one morning about 6am with 'Boba Fettish' in my head and just had to do it.
I should really do more. I enjoyed it.

Yes I like that about pen, you know you can't get it wrong. I do tend to lay out the basic proportions in pencil first though so I'm a cheater haha

  • Done a few more this week, had a request for one of Keef Richards (who is fantastic to draw by the way, fancy doing one in pen of just his face as there's a lot of detail in there!!!) and also invested in some actual drawing pencils with pastel pencils in there as well so can have a better go at colour drawings rather than using my Lego pencil crayons.

    Keef

My 2 year old nephew in his Halloween costume (very pleased with the new pencils)

And then one I've done tonight as TV was boring

It was good of Sir Keef to drop by your house.  ;)
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.

He actually wanted a portrait in acrylics, but I wouldn't paint it black

Bit of an old thread bump, but I've had a digital drawing tablet thing for my birthday so have been drawing again on that over the last few days, trying to master Inkscape is a step learning curve but I quite like how they have come out

I used to draw a fair bit when I was younger and did a few drawings for friends during uni – I did the Petrucci one for myself. However, I've not bothered since, but I'd love to get back into it. It's so therapeutic/rewarding:

I started drawing when I was around 14 when I was really into fantasy art stuff but once I discovered beer I lost interest. Picked it up again in my 30’s doing backdrops for functions and leaving cartoons for people. Had a couple of goes at oil portraits but only ever do anything when I’m asked specifically so I’m not exactly prolific.
I bought an Ipad Air and the pencil to go with it but I've yet to really have a go at the digital realm.
The first couple of examples are from when I was around 15 ( my dark phase ) The rest are just various stuff I’ve done over the years.

… digital drawing tablet thing … been drawing again on that over the last few days

I like this one. I like the clarity of intent - making a single, bold mark and, then, not fussing over it or making numerous corrections.

If enough people quote your tablet images in this thread, it will be interesting to see how they survive the shrinking process.

There is a part of me that dislikes drawings made from photographs. OTOH, how else can you draw yourself?

I also detect something in the drawing that your good lady might dislike.  :3
