Are these any good or just a budget generic type of guitar?

Quite liked their 339 or 335 type.

A good while ago i picked up their hofner violin bass copy as a fun, cheap experiment. There were obvious corners cut - scratchplate didn't fit properly, imperfections in the finish - but nothing that could be considered fatal. I was very pleasantly surprised by the playability right out of the box and, even though I eventually moved it on, it remains the most fun and pleasing to play bass that I've ever had. It's one of the ones I really regret selling, and I will probably get another violin bass at some point because of that guitar.

I had one of their older SG junior copies - really nice little guitar, decent P90 and hardware, good fretwork. Never really played it as I don't seem to get on with Gibson scale length, but still regret selling it.

  • I was going to ask a similar question as I saw a guy playing an Alden guitar busking in Swindon last weekend. To my ears it made a great sound. I didn't get too close to look at it in detail as, with COVID-19 changing the way we do stuff, I didn't have any change and would have felt a bit bad having a proper look but not giving him a quid or two.

But it sounded and looked good enough to spark my curiosity too.

    He should smash it.
Jack White might buy him a CS Strat.
