Number of Frets

Anyone know a guitar website where you can filter by number of frets?

Trying to browse but the main ones I use don't have the option and it's a pain having to click in to each guitar separately.

  • You can on the Thomann website, but that's the only one I know of
Too much gain... is just about enough \m/

I'm probably the only member of this forum mentioned by name in Whiskey in the Jar ;)

My Fenders have 22 but I can't be sure I've ever played a note on either the 21st or the 22nd lol

I was exactly the same before recently getting my first 24-fretter! I didn't seek a 24 on purpose, but the funny thing is that I now venture to the 22nd fret on it (23/24 is still pretty cramped). So I guess in that way having 24 frets is useful, for the access more than the extra two frets

  • There's a reason why it's called the dusty end.

I thought the frets at the dusty end were put there for use as spares to pull out when the ones at the cowboy end start to wear out

The only time I've found it an issue was in a song I used to play, which had a high D bent up to E in the solo. Very hard to do with a 21-fret guitar - you'd have to start with it pre-bent a semitone, then up another tone - up against the body and with an 11 top E, not possible. I was able to play it an octave lower with a forced harmonic... mostly :).

I've just nailed some P90s to an archtop with no cutaway, and wanting to attract neither dogs nor teenage boys with widdly wee nonsense I'm happy never venturing above the 15th fret.

Not sure I've ever seen that.

I wish scale length could be filtered though.

I’m so bored I might as well be listening to Pink Floyd

but there's never any fretbuzz up there and you can bend as far as you can push!  ;)
