    With a plectrum.

    The Duncan/Basslines active pickup and EQ system will be good. (I have the same combination in some of my Yamaha Attitude Plus basses.) Just add the appropriate overdrive/distortion.

    The thinner strings are duplicates - more of them to fill out the sound rather than an 8 string where there is only 1 octave string.

    I had a go on a Dean once and loved it. Shame it was about 12 lb!
