Too difficult, it depends on whether I'm playing fretted or fretless, or if there's a usable amp at the venue.

But I did once get into a band by being the only one with a car :).

You have a White Horse! I loved that comp, just astounding sound it made. Unfortunately mine went faulty (the Gain control started to sound different), I returned it to VFE and he said he fixed it but it never sounded the same as it had originally. If you ever fall out of love with it...

It's a great pedal - really flexible maybe too flexible... I haven't really got my head around how it works yet!
It was actually a gift from a friend (a proper bassist, not a part-timer like me) in February this year, I put it on my pedalboard and only managed to do a couple of band practices before lockdown so it's just been sitting un-used since then. TBH I'd never heard of them before!
It's the only compressor that I've found that I've liked better than my trusty old Boss CS-1.

I love the CS-1 too. It works surprisingly well for bass with it’s Normal/Treble switch. With Treble selected it gives a very nice punchy tone.

I suspect we may be in the minority in our love for the CS-1!

But yeah - punch to bass and imparts a very 'tinselly' quality to a guitar.

    Zvex Box of Rock

The Zvex is a guitar pedal, but it does not shelve bass frequencies like other guitar Overdrive pedals and sounds great to add a bit of crunch. I first started using it to approximate a Jack Bruce Cream-era type sound for a few Cream tribute shows and it's stayed ever since.

Not going to work for me. If I went back to bass it would be music man fretted and fretless, ns nxt, any amp and no pedals.

  • Why three pedals? I know I usually gig with a tuner, boost/OD and chorus, but I'd just prefer to use a tuner given the chance.
